MASSIVART
Unpublished 2012
Andrea produced six illustrations for the occasion of Massivart’s annual multidisciplinary exhibit. First drawn freehand with a fine-tipped felt pen, her illustrations are then scanned to add colour and texture digitally. Andrea’s technical ingenuity in graphic design shines through in this extremely precise and refined digital work. Through digital re‑working, the monochromatic drawings are transformed into coloured versions; an off-shoot is made of each piece to create its twin in colour. Finally, printed in large format, the resulting effect is that of an etching.

These six illustrations are the reflection and transposition of everyday observations on various subjects. They reveal a need to awaken a certain dissatisfaction, a state of disquiet, while at the same time expose the banality inhabiting each instant. From the repercussions of a meeting between Caucasians and Inuit, Andrea’s illustrations also call to mind a bistro in Berlin or even a morning coffee. Humorous, of course. But ever with a slight sarcastic, even acerbic tone.
